One Voice
What a creative, collaborative, and powerful summer! Amidst all the changes and distance we have experienced this year, it was incredible to create something beautiful and hear wise and motivating words from our students.
This workshop continued our annual songwriting series but with a new title this year: One Voice. Furthermore, we all participated in this workshop digitally for the first time! Our students were able to apply what they learned about songwriting from last summer or jump into songwriting for the first time. Each week we explored a different element of songwriting while working collaboratively to create an original group song.
We kicked off this series by hearing from special guest, Keesy Timmer. Kessy is a Nashville songwriter whose most recent charting success was with Kelsea Ballerini's "Yeah Boy." Keesy shared his experience as a songwriter, writing tips, and helped us start brainstorming lyrics for our original song.
This series aimed to share our students' viewpoint of the world today and, ultimately, what we want they want the world to know. Through these discussions, it was clear that the world is an overwhelming place, but if we rely on the power of music, everything will be okay. Music invokes joy, emotion, change, and brings us back to life! We were able to take these thoughts and work collaboratively to write lyrics for our very own Courtney's Corner original song. Seeing the power and change that comes from so many voices coming together as one was unforgettable!
We ended this series with even further collaboration with our new friend and musician, Corey Hawkins. Corey jumped into this project, helping us with the music creation! Engaging the community and growing our circle is so important to us at Courtney's Corner; we were thrilled to have Corey be a part of this process.
We are currently working on meeting with all students individually to record the song in social distance fashion! We are excited to promote our release date soon, and we cannot wait for you to hear what we've created. In the meantime, check out the lyrics to our song below. Feel free to share these lyrics with those around you, because our students have a message that the world desperately needs to hear right now. Bring the music back to life!
Verse:
Distance, are you lonely?
Voices, can you hear me?
Hidden, do you see me?
Searching for normalcy, but what does normal even mean
Sadness, are you hurting?
Sickness, are you worrying?
Fighting, but who’s winning?
Dreaming of unity, to break the walls that stand between
Pre-chorus:
Take a look through our eyes
And you will find
Chorus:
Turn up the radio
Drown the voices out
Sing what’s in your soul
Find the groove
Not afraid to bust a move
Make the music come alive
Every voice is unified
Taking hope to all the world
And bringing music back to life
Music interlude
Verse:
Stronger, than our weakness
Bolder, cause I’m fearless
My courage, is endless
Using all the strength in me To fight whatever comes at me
Pre-chorus:
Take a look through our eyes
And you will find
Chorus:
Turn up the radio
Drown the voices out
Sing what’s in your soul
Find your groove
Don’t be afraid to bust a move
Make the music come alive
Every voice is unified
Taking hope to all the world
And bringing music back to life
Bridge:
We will overcome
We will overcome
Shining like the sun
One by one
We overcome
X2
Chorus:
Turn up the radio
Drown the voices out
Sing what’s in your soul
Find your groove
Don’t be afraid to bust a move
Make the music come alive
Every voice is unified
Taking hope to all the world
And bringing music back to life
Chorus
Turn up the radio
Drown the voices out
Sing what’s in your soul
Find your groove
Don’t be afraid to bust a move
Make the music come alive
Every voice is unified
Taking hope to all the world
And bringing music back to life
Bringing music back to life
Bringing music back to life
